FAC3: West Ham Utd 2-0 Birmingham City (05/01/19)
New game, new thread, new Cup journey.
Suspect Silva may be involved but Saturday match rules out 'Xande Bloody Xande' headline (for now).

I think we need to start Silva, see what he’s got in a competitive game seeing as we need someone to play alongside Arnautovic in the league that isn’t Carroll or Perez.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
I’d go:
——————Adrian
Zab—Ogbonna—Oxford—Arthur
————-Noble——Obiang
——————Nasri
Diagana———————Silva
———-——Antonio
Subs: Fabianski, Diop, Creswell, Snodgrass, Anderson, Arnoutovic and Carroll
I think after such a hectic Christmas period we need to give some of the mainstays a bit of a rest but at the same time we shouldn’t take Birmingham lightly. I’d give both Diagana and Silva some minutes, whilst it seems a nice game to introduce Nasri. I’d hve Carroll on the bench, as his role should be limited to an impact sub from now on. If we look disjointed in attack in the first half I’d bring on both Anderson and Arnie to help win the game, but hopefully that won’t be necessary.

The last hurrah for Perez, or possibly even just putting him in the shop window.
I’d go something like:
—————————Adrian——————————
—-Antonio——Diop———Ogbonna—-Masuaku—
———————Noble——Rice————————-
———Diangana———————Nasri—————-
———————Perez——Silva————————
Shows that we could do with another centre back with Balbuena out.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
Because of injuries & the obvious signs of tiredness, I'm quite worried about our chances in this match.
They are in good form, recently beat our last season's nemesis, Wigan 3-0 away!, sit just outside the play-off places & for the 3rd match running, our opponents will have had an extra days rest, than us..
True, I'd be even more worried if we were away, but I'm not sure that we've got that much 'home advantage', anymore.
People would love to see a cup win but this ain't the circumstances or the team of January 1980, very sadly..
Go on, prove me wrong, please West Ham..
DON'T FORGET, 12:30 K/O!

All change, please. Plenty of tired legs and minds. I would start Oxford if he is still alive, but going with Rice at CB. Brum will also rotate as their priority is the league.
4-4-2: Adrian; Antonio, Rice, Ogbonna, Masuaku; Diangana, Obiang, Noble, Nasri; Perez, Carroll.
Subs: Fabianski, Diop, Cresswell, Coventry, Anderson, Arnautovic, Silva.
Get the fullbacks overlapping and sending in crosses for Carroll to attack.
WHU 4-2 BIR

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
I wouldn't play the likes of Perez or Carroll in this... we should be giving some of the kids a go but also using it to increase the fitness of a few of our players coming back from injuries. Also, a few players need a rest... that is evident
I'd like to see: Adrian, Masuaku, Pask, Ogbonna, Antonio, Coventry, Noble, Nasri, Diang, Silva, Arnie
Bench: Anderson, Rice, Powell, Holland, Snod, Trott, Zabaleta

Adrian
Antonio Diop Ogbonna Masuaku
Diangana Noble Obiang Nasri
Carroll Perez
Plenty of experience and enough quality to get the job done.
Would have liked Oxford to feature but can't see him playing for us again.
Feels a bit like last chance saloon for the likes of Ogbonna, Obiang, Carroll & Perez (all of whom I wouldn't be upset to see leave the club).

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
Tough selection for this game for Pellegrini. He'll be weighing up cup run and success against resting tired players and blooding youngsters and those on fringes. I hope he gets the balance right.
I think we're not in danger of relegation this season now and fully involved in the mid table mini league so with that in mind I would love it if we went for bit in the cup. Obviously the competitions are not mutually exclusive but given our injury status I would be more than happy to prioritise the cup now, providing we don't throw the kids under the bus in later rounds.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
Typically Pellegrini has used all subs from the previous game in the starting line up for cup games and due to injuries, you'd assume he will keep Diop and Ogbonna at the back.
He has also been great at managing Noble's game time so maybe he will aim him at Arsenal.
I'd expect to see...
---------------- Adrian -----------------
Antonio Ogbonna Diop Masuaku
------------ Nasri Obiang ------------
Diangana ----------------------- Silva
------------ Perez Carroll ------------
Fabianski Zabaleta Rice Noble Anderson Snodgrass Arnautovic
Not sure it will be good enough for us to win, we may have to turn to the likes of Arnautovic, Anderson and Noble in the last 20min.

Are replays available for the 3rd round? If so, 1-1

You can get 7/1 on Birmingham winning this! Assuming Anderson and Arnie are going to be rested I'm not sure who else scores for us, we look shot at the moment!

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Birmingham City: match thread
I have a bad feeling about this game. Like all of us I am desperate to see us get back to Wembley and lift the FA Cup again, it's been far too long. However, I expect a lot of changes in the line up as the busy schedule has left us rather weary and somewhat ragged. Brum will be up for it, so will their fans - they have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.
Obviously I hope I'm wrong and we smash the bluenoses.

A good professional win is needed.
I just realised that this will be my last game for a month as working for l'arse and don't do aways.
