Went upstairs and went into the dark bedroom with my arms completely full of boxes and said 'Google, turn on the bedroom lights' and she did - also completely pointless, but ever so satisfying.DasNutNock wrote:Managed to get my tv to load a bit of unsupported software so it can be controlled by Alexa. Pointless exercise, granted, but it’s still oddly rewarding to make a bit of kit do something it isn’t meant to be able to.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
Aye, the light-controlling stuff, whilst a total waste of money, is curiously cool. Being able to remote-switch the lights off in the kids rooms is pretty useful - I've programmed our eldest's echo dot to switch on her lights and play Heart FM (her favourite station) at 7am, then off again at 7:45am.
I've also configured all the lamps in the TV rooms to automatically dim when you start watching a movie, and fade them back on again when you pause or finish watching, which is just about the coolest thing in the world.
I do need to get some zigbee switches and faders, though, as voice-controls can be a bit unreliable sometimes, especially since I have a mix of philips & ikea bulbs.

My observation is that, having used Alexa and a Google Home Hub, is that the speech recognition on Google is far superior. You don't ever have to change to change your intonation/volume etc. - she just understands.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I think the problem was down to me naming the group of lights "bedroom lights", the overhead light "bedroom light" and her table lamp "bedroom lamp", so when I tell it "bedroom lights off" it isn't sure if I mean the group of lights or the overhead light.

Clearly forms part of every safe and successful weight-loss program.S-H wrote:"Where's my ****ing caviar, bitch!"
Anyway, the best time was when she got up to leave the room, he sprinted from the other side of the room, jumped onto the sofa arm and bit her on the arse. I have never felt more love for another being as I felt for the cat at that moment.

I'd argue some kid's dream coming true hardly constitutes a "little thing".psychoscoredthelot wrote:that made me smile much more than cats and caviar and ****ing light dimming

The Scousers ringing into Talk Sport this morning.
"Kompany should have been sent off"
"The ball definitly crossed the line"
"City were so lucky"
"The ref gave us nothing"

Finding a paper from Feb 1956 under some old lino in an old fitted cupboard in the house.
The Sunday Graphic.
Turned straight to the sport section, WH 4th from bottom of the old 2nd division. :arry:

HRH Mrs Bubbs bought me some headphones for Christmas - I think she's telling me something about my musical taste - but I love them!
Music crystal clear on vinyl/laptop etc - soap operas shut out. Absolute result.

Fixed the blender with a spare repair kit I bought about 8 years ago, but had the prescience to blu-tack to the blender base, knowing I'd need it one day.

Two new software packages at work have customisable desktops, including changing the colour of backgrounds, text etc.
