And there is no guarantee that he'd be able to walk either.

Some people should read Dyer's book or listen to the Pod Cast he did with the True Geordie... quite eye opening.

I caught that, definitely made me change my views on him, unfortunate with the injuries sustained and dodgy advice received. Definitely not in big Andy’s category.

Only West Ham would be stupid enough to break their transfer record for a young English striker on the fringes on the England squad and let him decrease to the extent that he would leave on expiry of his contract six years later.

Absolute incompetence at boardroom level.

Running at Cheltenham would infer that he was some sort of thoroughbred.

I feel that ambling up and down Brighton beach with a couple of kids strapped to his back would be more his level in this particular analogy.

To be fair, we were quite vocal in requesting his permanent transfer. The wages considering his injury record was questionable, but that's probably what it costs to get a "young English strike on the fringes on the England squad". If he had come good, we would have a real asset on our hands.

Unfortunately it hasn't and we have been lumbered with a player depreciating in value season on season. Like much of the dross in our squad, I imagine it is quite difficult to shift a player who no one else wants.

no **** sherlock! :D

one season on loan, three different injuries. injured when he signed. questionable attitude already.
but yeah it made perfect sense to make him our highest paid player on a six years deal.

the signs were there, they were ignored.

Was more pointing out that it wasn't a stupid decision, just a gamble that didn't pay off

Croydon

I think it was a stupid gamble that never was going to pay off myself....

I was embarrassed with a large portion of adult supporters singing "Andy Carroll, we want you to stay."

I was at the Reading game singing for him to stay. Proud to have done so THEN.

If I had know then what we know now, I would have gone and got Ian Dowie out of retirement instead.

Bit harsh knocking the crowd for singing that they wanted him to stay. Fans have a vocabulary of 42 songs sung to 6 tunes.

‘We want you to stay
We want you to stay
Subject to medical concerns
And pay per game incentives
We want you to sign a conditional contract’
