Could've
Would've
Should've

But it just wasn't meant to be. Time to move on for both parties.

Absolute incompetence at boardroom level.
Nah. We can blame the board for a lot, but plenty of us (myself included) were delighted at the time. Many of us thought it actually was a next level, ambitious signing.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm not blaming the board, the manager wanted the signing and a lot of fans did as well. Bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario.

I'll be glad when they announce that Carroll has left the building.

I was embarrassed with a large portion of adult supporters singing "Andy Carroll, we want you to stay."

You sure it wasn't the Newcastle fans singing it fearing he might sign for them next year...

Just goes to show that every team has their idiots, with those sort of chants we should be told to play behind closed doors.

The thing is it was the whole stadium.

I’ll never forget that, I cringed so much at the time.

An end of season mugging orchestrated by the club..the sheeple effect that day was indeed embarrassing..what a waste of money and of common sense.

In his season on loan with us he scored 7 goals, was injured once (out for ten games at the end of the season), so not sure where all the "we should've known better" comments are coming from. He was one of our best players in that season and worked excellently with Nolan. Before that he had only had a handful of injuries over 3-4 years. Even accounting for a first serious injury with Newcastle, that isn't terrible.

It's since his move to West Ham that he fell to pieces. Just look at this:

Some of us were not keen on his signing at the time because of his injury record , plus his goalscoring record in relation to the fee and salary. Hes had his odd moment but overall hes been an absolute disaster, thank god his time with us nearly done. I think his career as a professional footballer is over too be honest.
