The Mental Health Thread - (Help Contacts in First Post).

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

TOMOS - you have been through the wringer mate.
I can appreciate your future worries too but you are doing the right things and you are winning step by step, even if it feels like there is always something else around the corner.
Once your boy is sorted it’ll be a different kind of stress but this phase will be over.

Anyone heard from Jamie (Geordie Hammer) - it’s been a while...
Hope you are doing okay mate.

I'm doing ok at the moment as it happens dude - been over 4 weeks since my last lot of chemo, and gradually feeling more human and certainly being more active.

All kicks off again on 19th June when I have a top up dose of chemo by IV, then 4 weeks of chemo by pill, alongside 4 weeks of radiotherapy.

Thankfully, that's then it, and I can start to recover and get back to work at long bloody last.

Great to see you're making positive steps too.

Everything just feels completely ****.

I don't even think I'm depressed, I'm just so uninspired by life.

Feel bad cos some of you are actually dealing with real things and I'm just a bit bored but seriously, how can anyone be content with this world?

Your posts do interest me, fj!
I think boredom that can't be relieved by anything (or certainly, anything for long) is quite significant in some way.
At the very minimum, it is an expression of unhappiness.

A concentration in the things in life that make you discontent as opposed to the reverse is probably a mood thing, but coming to an existentialist view of the meaning of life would seem,to me at least, to be thoroughly rational.
It doesn't necessarily mean a descent into nihilism , the summer sun is warm, and in my experience, just one of the things that technology can't really replicate.Life can be beautiful even though it's fundamentally absurd.

That came across wrong - you've got to fight your cancer as you want to live - you have to accept the Chemo and the Radiotherapy treatment - it's just the manner you've gone about things , your positive attitude will help you in the long run .

Currently I am an even bigger ball of anxiety than usual.

All work related.

As the Group prepares itself for the shop window, they are stripping out as much as cost as possible. Fair enough but it's got to a ridiculous point now where we are running a business worth a couple of billion dollars without adequate resource.

I can take all of this but last week I was called over to Group (I work in and run a Department in one of the larger business units) and told to find "efficiencies" in my team.

I knew it was coming as everyone else has been given the same treatment. However, it's the way that they want me to do it that is causing me sleepless nights.

Effectively my boss who sits on the Group Board, has always hated my number 2. Finds him arrogant and not the sort of person that I should have deputising for me around the firm.

The problem I have with this is that he's wrong about him. He doesn't know him and he is in fact a very genuine, very technically able manager . Yes we pay him a lot of dough but no more than others in the industry at his level.

Even the Group COO, who has never met my direct report said yes you have a problem over there. My reply was , "which is?"

" Oh you know, that guy...."

Oh the one you've never met and are judging on the opinion of someone else that has met him once (I didn't say this bit)

I get their disdain for him. I knew him before I became his boss from my work at another firm and always felt him a bit of a cold fish.

Then I worked with him for a year and he's the total opposite.

Getting to the point, they've not told me to get rid of him but have inferred in a reasonably sinister way on more than one occasion now, that it would be in my best interests to do so.

And to be clear, they only want him out on the basis of what they perceive as his personality, nothing more. His real personality is super eccentric but in a really funny , engaging way. It's just his initial cold exterior which puts people off.

I am in a position now where I am forced to risk my own position in insisting he stays or terminate his employment.

He doesn't have a family and his girlfriend works but that's not really the point, this is very wrong and I suppose I'm just amazed at the way in which this ok with them. One of them was even laughing about this when going through it with me. c****.

I probably know what the answer is but just wanted to vent it in here.
