Zavon Hines

Squad Number: 26
Position: Striker
Born: 27th Dec 1988, Jamaica
Signed: 1st Aug 2007 (£0)
Contract: 3 years
Previous Club: Fiorentina

KUMB Awards: Young Player of the Year 2009/10.

Born in Jamaica, the young Hines grew up in London's East End and signed pro terms for the Hammers in 2006. He made his first team debut in a 4-1 Carling Cup win against Macclesfield in August 2008 - scoring during extra time - but failed to feature again.

As a result of the club's well documented financial problems manager Gianfranco Zola was forced to turn to youth at the start of the 2009/10 campaign and Hines was forced into the spotlight.

Having shone in pre-season, Hines repeated his Carling Cup feat against Millwall and is now a regular face in Zola's 18-man first team squad.

2009/10 Match Notes & Ratings

0-4 v Manchester United (h) 5th December 2009
by Gordon Thrower

Not his fault but he should have been off well before half time.

5-3 v Burnley (h) 28th November 2009
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced Cole, 46 mins) Though he wasn’t at his most dominant, better and more honest officiating might have seen him win two more penalties.

2-1 v Aston Villa (h) 4th November 2009
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced Cole, 30 mins) Outstanding. Caused Villa problems the second he was introduced. His work for the winner was superb.

2-2 v Sunderland (a) 31st October 2009
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced Franco, 64 mins) Should have been on earlier as he gave us an “out” where it had previously been lacking.

2-2 v Arsenal (h) 25th October 2009
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced Franco, 64 mins) Caused Arsenal problems by running at them and was instrumental in winning the free-kick for the first.

2-2 v Fulham (h) 4th October 2009
by Gordon Thrower

Towards the end of the first half it looked like he was in for a stormer. Suffered from the same cloak of invisibility as Ilunga in the second period.

1-3 v Manchester City (a) 28th September 2009
by Hammer John

(Replaced Jimenez, 71 mins) As with Stanislas, tried to make an impact, put himself about but no real end product.

1-3 v Bolton Wanderers (a) 22nd September 2009
by Hammer John

Full of running but outmuscled by the giant Bolton defence.

2-3 v Liverpool (h) 19th September 2009
by Gordon Thrower

Faded in the last quarter by which time the foul count on him was in double figures. Early days but if he can keep this progress rate going he could become very influential.

0-1 v Wigan Athletic (a) 12th September 2009
by Gordon Thrower

A decent full debut. Chased down the ‘keeper a few times and displayed a sense of urgency that few of his team-mates matched.

3-1 v Millwall (h) 25th August 2009
by East Stand Martin

(Replaced Payne, 46 mins) Bagged a goal of real quality. Again.

1-2 v Tottenham Hotspur (h) 23rd August 2009
by East Stand Martin

(Replaced Parker, 85 mins) Too little too late.

1-2 v Tottenham Hotspur (h) 23rd August 2009
by Gordon Thrower

(Replaced Parker, 85 mins) Too little too late.

2-0 v Beijing Guoan (n) 31st July 2009
by Staff Writer

(Replaced Jimenez, 79 mins) A really well taken goal from a player enjoying his football. Not a million miles away from the first team given the current squad situation.

2008/09 Match Notes & Ratings

4-1 v Macclesfield Town (h) 27th August 2008
by Graeme Howlett

(replaced Behrami, 27) Showed some nice touches and good close control but looks like he needs a few dinners. Is nowhere near ready for Premiership football though.
