Roeder dismisses speculation

Hammers boss Glenn Roeder has denied that any players are set to leave Upton Park imminently - despite a rash of speculation in the media suggesting otherwise.

Since it was revealed some weeks ago that the club will have to part with players in order to make up the £20m+ shortfall sustained as a result of relegation the media have carried stories on a daily basis suggesting that certain players are about to leave Upton Park.

Depending on which newspapers you read at least half of West Ham's current first team could have been on their way out of the club in the past fortnight - a scenario which Roeder refutes categorically.

"There has been interest in a number of our players," he told whufc.co.uk this morning (Wednesday). "I am not surprised about the interest because we have lots of talented players - but there have been no developments.

"At this time of year a lot of people are taking their summer holidays. I don't see things picking up until July onwards. Basically, I don't think anything will be happening for the next few weeks."

Roeder added that when the club are ready to let players move it will be on their terms - and not because West Ham are held to ransom by other clubs aware of our perilous financial situation.

"It is important that when we do sell a player we get a price that is acceptable," he said. "I am very confident there will be no player leaving here on the cheap."

* Meanwhile, Trevor Sinclair - one of the favourites to be leaving Upton Park this summer - has added his name to a long list of players apparently ready to stay at the club.

"I am hoping to stay but sometimes transfers and club situations are not legislated by the players," he said.
