Rufus returns?

Hammers full-back Rufus Brevett could return to the fold before the end of the season, according to Alan Pardew.

Brevett - who sustained a broken ankle playing against Sheffield United back in August - was thought likely to miss the entire season, after suffering a relapse back in December.

But, according to Pardew, the 34-year-old former QPR and Fulham defender could be back in action by by April - and therefore back in time for the final few games of the 2003/04 season.

"Rufus will be in plaster until February 10th having had screws put into his fracture," Pardew revealed this morning.

"Hopefully that will be the end of the problem - and he will be back playing six to eight weeks after the plaster is off."

It was thought initially that Brevett's injury would keep him out of action until Christmas until a CT scan revealed that the injury had failed to heal as expected.

A further 8 weeks in plaster will have given Brevett plenty of time to recover however, and initial estimates that his season would be over now appear to have been a little wide of the mark.

Good news for all concerned.
