West Ham are set to take Yeovil goalkeeper Chris Weale on trial, it has been revealed this morning.

21-year-old Weale, who impressed against Liverpool in the recent FA Cup tie will train with the Hammers at Chadwell Heath later this week, as Alan Pardew steps up his search for replacements for David James.

Part of the non-league England team which won a home nations tournament last year, Weale is one of the lower divisions most highly-rated goalkeepers.

Glovers boss Gary Johnson revealed this morning:

"With West Ham in the hunt for a new goalkeeper this is a great opportunity for Chris.

"I would not dream of standing in his way. We'll see what comes of it."

News of Weale's imminent arrival comes after it was revealed that Swedish trainee Bengt Andersson would not be offered a contract at Upton Park.

The 37-year-old former Swedish international returns home today after failing to impress during his brief spell at Chadwell Heath.

Meanwhile, the chances of French defender Seb Carole signing a permanent deal with the Hammers took a turn for the worse this morning, when Monaco boss Didier Deschamps revealed that he would not allow the promising 21-year-old to leave on a free.

Carole, who is thought to have impressed Alan Pardew whilst on trial last week looked set for a move to Upton Park until Monaco demanded a fee in the region of £250,000 for the defender.
