Pardew tight-lipped over Keown rumours

Hammers boss Alan Pardew has refused to be drawn on rumours of an impending bid for Arsenal's veteran centre-half Martin Keown.

Rumours of a possible move for the 37-year-old - who was first linked with a switch to East London whilst Harry Redknapp was still in charge - have been circulating for several days, although Pardew, interviewed in the latest edition of fanzine OLAS refused to comment either way.

"He [Keown] would do a good job," he said, "although I donít know where that one has popped up from!"

The Oxford-born defender - a former apprentice at Highbury - re-signed for Arsenal 11 years ago in a £2m switch from Brighton.

He was most recently linked with West Ham when former colleague Nigel Winterburn singed a one-year extension to his expiring deal in 2001; rumours at that point suggesting that Glenn Roeder had also tried to sign Keown in order to partner Winterburn at ht heart of the Hammers defence.

Capped 43 times by England, Keown - who will be 38 before next season begins - is likely to be available on a free from Arsenal this summer, having played just 11 times for the Gunners.
