West Ham will face one of 16 unseeded teams in the first round of the Carling Cup, into which North and South sections are being introduced for the first time.

West Ham - the number one seed from the southern section - will have to travel no further north than Kidderminster should they be drawn away on Thursday morning, when the first round matches will be decided during a ceremony at the Football League Operations Centre in Preston.

However with the involvement of teams such as Swansea and Yeovil, Hammers fans could still be in for quite a trek should Alan Pardew's men receive an away fixture in the draw.

The 16 non-seeded teams West Ham could face are as follows:

Brentford; Peterborough; Rushden & Diamonds; Wycombe Wanderers,;Torquay United; Northampton Town; Yeovil Town; Oxford United; Swansea City; Boston United; Cambridge United; Cheltenham Town; Bristol Rovers; Kidderminster Harriers; Southend United; Leyton Orient

Millwall have been given a bye to the third round as a result of their involvement in the UEFA Cup, whilst Leicester - who finished highest amongst the clubs relegated from the Premiership last season - have also received a bye in order to even numbers.

This season, the 14 Premiership teams not involved in European competition this season will take part in the second round of the competition, whilst the big guns (and Millwall) enter the fray in the third round.

The draw takes place at 9.15am this Thursday (8th July). Full details will appear on KUMB immediately after the draw is concluded.
