More final heartbreak for Hammers

For the second time inside three months West Ham came away from a final empty-handed, as the veterans lost a closely contested Masters 2004 final against Chelsea.

For the second year in succession the Hammers - featuring the likes of Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie - battled bravely through the group stage, only to come unstuck in the final game of the day.

Last year Charlton stopped the Hammers from going all the way by virtue of a penalty shootout; this time a solitary strike from Chelsea was enough to win the final - all after West Ham had beaten their West London neighbours in the group match thanks to a last minute Tony Cottee strike.
