Argie bargy?

West Ham look set to make two new defensive signings by the end of the week, as Alan Pardew seeks to strengthen his back line.

Pardew, who last week signed Carl Fletcher from Bournemouth is thought to be tying up deals for Spurs pair Calum Davenport and Argentinian full back Mauricio Taricco, out of favour at White Hart Lane this season.

Of course, regular readers of KUMB will be well aware of the Davenport link; we revealed last week how he was set to sign on a season-long loan once returning from England under-21 duty.

But Pardew looks set to add the 31-year-old Argentinian to his ranks after agreeing a permanent deal with the North Londoners.

Despite first choice full-back Rufus Brevett returning to the fold this season following a nine month lay-off, Alan Pardew is keen to strengthen the left back position.

With Brevett fast approaching 35, Pardew is concerned that the former Fulham man's best days are behind him and has moved for the out of favour Argentinian, who Spurs signed from Ipswich for £1.8m back in 1998.

Taricco, who started his career with Argentinos Juniors moved to England in 1994 where he spent four successful years at Portman Road before switching to Tottenham.

The Spurs number 3 - who, if he signed would become West Ham's fifth former Tottenham player - is yet to make a first team start this season.
