Williams deal set to complete

West Ham look set to wrap up the signature of Yeovil Town midfielder Gavin Williams early this week.

24-year-old Williams is set to tie up the final details of a move to East London within the next few days, for a fee thought to be in the region of £150,000.

The midfielder has made 16 appearances for the League Two club this season, scoring twice in the process.

One Yeovil supporter told KUMB -

"Williams is best played in a free role behind the front two.

"He has the creativity to unlock any defence - we outplayed Liverpool in last year's FA Cup tie and Alan Hansen was throwing tons of praise our way. Williams was instrumental in that.

"He can beat players on either side, has the pace to go outside and will glide past a man on his inside. He is an extremely skillful player and moves the ball very quickly between feet.

"His passing and vision are as good as any and he can create something from nothing. He has bundles of pace and doesn't stop running, and gives 110% every game."

On the question of his volatile temperament - which saw Cardiff-fan Williams banned for three games recently - our friend from the West Country adds:

"When he joined us he was a little aggressive and had a tendency to retaliate to situations and earn himself silly bookings. But, working under a good, influential manager in Gary Johnson he has calmed down a lot.

"He will be sorely missed but the fee will be good for us - and even at 250k West Ham will have got a bargain.

"Given have a chance, he will excel, he will definitely rise to the challenge of playing championship football and will no doubt be a regular for Wales in no time."

Yeovil boss Johnson had said late last week:

"I would be very surprised if the deal doesn’t go through.

"Gavin is at this moment going through a medical, which is a big one because of the fee West Ham are paying and the probable size of Gavin’s salary as well.

"But Alan Pardew spoke to me yesterday (Thursday) and said as far as he is concerned everything is ok."
