Alan Pardew has reiterated his desire to succeed as manager of West Ham in the wake of speculation concerning his future.

Pardew - speaking on the club's website today - was reacting to rumours suggesting that his job could be on the line should the team not perform ably during the forthcoming Christmas period.

"I came to West Ham because it was a big Club with big ambitions," said the former Reading boss. "Of course, at West Ham United the expectations are going to be high - but I still believe that I can do it.

"You have to draw on what you believe in. I’ll continue to do the job to the best of my ability. The speculation is out of my hands. I just want to focus on what I can control, which is the performance of the team.

"Hopefully we can hit back with a good run of performances over this tough and hectic period, and go on to mount a strong challenge for promotion."

With games against Nottingham Forest and Rotherham coming up in the next few days, six points will be the minimum requirement for a man just 14 months into his tenure as West Ham's 10th manager.
