Matty Etherington has signed a new deal to stay at the Boleyn.

The club announced this evening that the 23 year-old Cornishman has signed a deal that will see him remain a Hammer until 2009.

Etherington joined the club in August 2003 and won the Hammer Of The Year award in his first season.

More recently, in December 2004, he hit the headlines for scooping the £17,000 first prize in a celebrity poker tournament, though it is not known whether these skills came into play during his contract negotiations.
