Ward set for jail sentence

Former Hammer Mark Ward is set to face a lengthy prison sentence after admitting possessing large quantites of cocaine.

42-year-old Ward - who played for West Ham in the 1980's before moving to Everton - admitted possession of four kilos of the drug, and was told by Judge John Phipps at Liverpool Crown Court this morning that he faces a lenthy spell in jail.

The popular midfielder was one of the 'boys of '86' which finished third in the league in the 1985/86 season. Unlike former team mate Frank McAvennie - who was also charged with drug offences recently - Scouser Ward looks let to face a lengthy spell inside.

He is due to be sentenced next week.
