Alan Pardew has signalled his intent to improve his squad - despite West Ham's excellent start to the season.
Pardew - speaking to the BBC after the excellent 2-1 win at Aston Villa today - reaffirmed his intention to boost his options in the current transfer window, despite having made just one signing (Yaniv Katan) so far."I'm pushing the board at the minute to do something," he said. "I feel we want to make a statement - not just to our fans but also to the players - that we want to push on quickly.
We've signed all the young guys to long term contracts, and I want to honour the trust they've put in me that I'm going to bring in good players."
With Tomas Repka set to leave the club after next week's home match with Fulham, Pardew is without a recognised right-back. Others positions he is looking to improve are in midfield and attack, with a string of possible candidates having been mentioned in recent days.
* Fans have called on the board tonight to back Pardew financially in the current transfer window; one poster on KUMB's forums, referring to Pardew's 'pushing the board' comment said:
"It was interesting to note he went public with a statement like that. I'm sure it was deliberate to add extra pressure on the board
"Pardew has got the board out of a big hole - and he deserves maximum support from them."
