Norwich City have confirmed that Dean Ashton will be moving to West Ham in a deal worth £7.25m.

The club website - canaries.co.uk - confirmed that Ashton moves to West Ham for an initial £7m, with a further £250,000 to be paid depending upon certain conditions.

Ashton is travelling to London this morning in order to put pen to paper on a five-year-deal and undergo a medical. He is set to make his debut against Blackburn in the FA Cup next week.

Canaries boss Nigel Worthington, talking about Ashton's departure this morning, said:

"We're always committed to trying to keep our best players at the Club but the size of today's bid coupled with Dean's desire to make the move happen meant that after talking it through with the Board and the lad himself, we've decided to accept this offer.

"If the move does go through, I'd like to place on record my thanks to Dean for his contribution and his professionalism during his time at Norwich and wish him all the very best in his future career. Meanwhile our round-the-clock efforts to strengthen our squad for the crucial months ahead continue."
