Bowyer talks imminent

Filed: Thursday, 1st June 2006

West Ham are set to conclude a deal with Newcastle to bring Lee Bowyer back to East London, according to reports.

Tonight's Evening Standard is reporting that Hammers' chairman Terry Brown is set to speak to his equivalent at Newcastle, Freddie Shepherd, in order to rubber stamp the deal.

The only sticking point appears to be Newcastle's desire to ask a fee for the former England and Leeds midfielder, which West Ham are thought to be reluctant to pay.

Bowyer is estimated to be on around 45,000 per week at Newcastle and will have to take a massive drop in wages in order to join the Hammers - although he is still likely to be one of the club's higest earners should he return South.

More on this as it happens.
