West Ham are set to sign Preston full back Tyrone Mears, according to reports.

Preston's club website revealed tonight that Mears is currently locked in talks with the Hammers and expected to sign within the next 24 hours.

The article posted on pnefc.premiumtv.co.uk tonight stated:

"Tye Mears is expected at Upton Park on Wednesday morning to undertake a medical and complete a move to West Ham.

"The Club had already turned down two bids from Charlton Athletic before interest from West Ham developed earlier this week.

"The Hammers made a bid which was deemed acceptable by the Preston North End board and management and Tye travelled down to London for talks on Monday."

Mears is likely to cost the Hammers in the region of £2m. Interest in the 23-year-old full-back developed after former target Luke Young failed a second medical last weekend.
