Pardew completes double signing

West Ham have announced their second signing of the day - Preston full-back Tyrone Mears.

The 23-year-old right-back follows striker Carlton Cole as Alan Pardew's second signing on a busy Wednesday.

Mears - who has cost an initial 1m, with a further 900,000 dependant upon appearances - has signed a four year contract with the Hammers, as did Carlton Cole earlier today.

Speculation over Mears had been rife after Preston announced news of his arrival at West Ham in order to undertake a medical with view to a move yesterday.

West Ham followed that with a swift 'no comment' earlier today before finally confirming the arrival of Mears - and earlier in the day, Cole - some hours later.

Meanwhile, West Ham's legal director Scott Duxbury has said that supporters can expect the arrival of 'big name signings' before the start of the new Premiership campaign.

In an interview with the Ilford Recorder, published today, and on the subject of summer transfer targets he said:

"It has been a little frustrating and the World Cup seems to bore a four-week hole in things. But I am confident that Alan will get there in the end.

"He has the money to spend - and I think that some big name signings are going to arrive."
