West Ham went down 2-1 in the second of their three Swedish tour matches against Gothenburg this afternoon.

Despite leading through a Bobby Zamora strike the Hammers succumbed to two Gothenburg strikes - one either side of the break - to fall to their first defeat of pre-season.

Alan Pardew sent out an another experimental side whilst giving a debut to trialist John Paintsil, who is expected to sign for the club later this week.

Anton Ferdinand captained a team featuring nine changes from that which beat Trollhatten 2-0 on Thursday night; Jimmy Walker, Yossi Benayoun and Marlon Harewood were also amongst those making their first starts of the tour.

Zamora opened the scoring early on in the first period before the home side equalised thorough a long-range George Mourad effort, which goalkeeper Walker could perhaps have done better with.

However Gothenburg snatched the win with a last minute striker from Swedish international Marcus Berg.

There was more bad news for Alan Pardew after Anton Ferdinand - recently recovered from a hernia op - limped off with what appeared to be a pulled hamstring midway through the first half.

Gothenburg were recently in the news after being beaten in the first leg of their UEFA Cup tie by Irish minnows Derry. West Ham's final match of the tour takes place against Ljungskile on Tuesday evening.

West Ham United: Walker; Paintsil, Ferdinand (Noble 25), Collins (Mears 75), Konchesky (Stokes 70); Benayoun (Ephraim 52), Mullins (Clarke 55), Fletcher, Reid; Zamora (Ashton 55), Harewood (Sheringham 62).
