The FA have revealed that they will await the verdict of a Premier League enquiry before deciding whether West Ham United should be punished for fielding ineligible players.

Last weekend it was announced that the Premier League had delayed Javier Mascherano's move to Liverpool due to problems with his registration, held by United since his move from Corinthians last year.

And now the Football Association have confirmed that whilst they are monitoring the situation, they will refrain from making a decision on West Ham United's involvement in this year's FA Cup competition until the PL have reached a verdict.

Bury - who were censored by the FA for fielding an ineligible player during an earlier round of the competition - are believed to have questioned the involvement of Carlos Tevez in the third round 3-0 win over Brighton; a spokesman for the Football League club stated today that 'we are watching the situation with interest'.

It is unclear at this stage exatcly what sanctions could be imposed on the Hammers, bearing in mind that they have already been knocked out of the competition.

West Ham United confirmed last weekend that they were co-operating with the Premier League who had written to all member clubs regarding player registration issues.
