A great run ...

Alan Curbishley reflects on a superb performance in the North West ...

I've been heartened [by our performances] since the Spurs game. We lost that unluckily, and should have won it. But the performance that day gave me a little bit of hope that if we could reproduce that, we weren't far wrong.

They've managed to do it in recent weeks and we're still alive. But to come here today and win 3-0 - and play the way we played - was great, and we've just got to take it into the next game.

It'll be a tough game, Bolton - but we've given ourselves a chance. We said to the players before the game 'can we grab our chance today?' We didn't turn up at Sheffield a couple of weeks ago but we did today.

We won by three and could perhaps have won by a few more. But I'll take the three and we live on until next week.

It helped that we scored first. It makes a big difference. When you're down at the bottom it's the other way round a lot of the time and you have to chase games. But once we got our noses in front we played ever so well.

Wigan put a lot of balls in the box - and bodies in the box. But when we broke in the second half we were excellent.

I see those performances every day in training but we've not done it in matches - only recently have they come out. We need to keep it going; we've got two more games, we've got to pick up as many points as we can.

We've been saying we think we need at least 38 points - it may be more - but who's to say we can't do it?

It's a great run, five wins out of seven - but we need to keep it going. We've had a lot of negative publicity this year - ever since I've been at the club it's been all negative.

But can we spin that around and have some positive press for once? We spoke about taking our chances today; let's hope we get that tomorrow.

The fans? They've been the one constant thing since I've been at the club. There were gestures made by the players and the club to bring the fans here today but they would have come here anyway!

We sell out all the away games which just shows you how big a club we are. But you can't rest on that and you've got to produce it on the pitch, and with the run we've put together so far we've given ourselves a chance. That's all I could have asked for a couple of weeks ago.

Paul Jewell (Wigan Athletic)

We looked a bit shaky right from the start and they were quicker to every ball, won every header, every tackle and passed the ball better than us.

They were far better on the day and fully deserved the victory - let's get that right, there's no getting away from it. The amazing thing is that it's still in our own hands.

At the moment they're on a decent run of form. Since that Blackburn game when they had the decisions go their way they've kicked on - and fair play to them.

But at this moment in time we're still in a better position - although if we continue to play like that we know we won't be come the end of the season because we won't get another corner, let alone another victory.

It was a bad day at the office, but if we have many more days like that we might not have an office to go to! That was a poor, poor performance on such a big occasion.

West Ham came here, they had a bit of a boost yesterday and they certainly took that into the game today.
