Champions League, we're having a laugh

West Ham United's recent form would have seen them qualify for a Champions League spot had it been maintained over the entire season.

In football365's Premiership form table - based over the last eight games - United are behind just Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham, scoring an average of 1.87 points per match.

Of their relegation rivals, the next best placed team are Charlton (1.25) in 12th followed by Sheffield United (1) in 14th, today's opponents Wigan (.075) in 17th and Fulham (0.5) in 20th place.

During that period the Hammers have taken maximum points from Blackburn, Arsenal and Wigan (a) and Middlesbrough, Everton (h) - losing to Sheffield United (a) and Tottenham and Chelsea (h).

Next week's opponents Bolton - who effectively handed the League title to neighbours Manchester United by holding Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge today - are 15th in the form table with an average of a point per game, having won just two of their last eight outings.

For the stattos out there, that form continued would leave the final Premiership table looking like this (points total rounded up):

15. Sheffield Utd 40 Pts
16. West Ham United 39
17. Fulham 38
----------------------------------
18. Wigan 37
19. Charlton 36
20. Watford 25
