Hurt

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has warned his team mates to expect a backlash when West Ham travel to Merseyside for tomorrow night's Premier League clash.

The Hammers visit Anfield looking for their first win since 1962 on the back of a 4-0 stuffing at the hands of Chelsea last weekend.

But Gerrard has warned his team mates against complacency, insisting that Alan Curbishley's team will be 'hurt' by Saturday's drubbing - and looking to get back on track.

"As footballers, when you are on the end of a battering you hurt and you want to put it right straight away," Gerrard told the club’s website.

"They'll come to Anfield hoping to get a good result, and a good result for them would be a draw. That's what they'll come here to get, but a draw is no good for us."

West Ham are one of only three teams to beat Liverpool in the Premier League this season; Mark Noble's last-gasp penalty giving the Hammers all three points in the home fixture earlier this year.

And the Liverpool and England midfielder believes - perhaps unlike in previous years - that the Hammers will prove to be tough competition.

"West Ham have bought some good players after a disappointing season for them last year. They've got good players and a good manager, so we have a lot of respect," he added.

"We're desperate for the points though, and we're at Anfield. We've been waiting for this game for a long time, now we've got to make it count."
