Calum Davenport is undergoing a medical ahead of a reported £3million switch to Sunderland.

As reported on KUMB.com this morning the centre half, who was made surplus to requirements by Gianfranco Zola recently is set to become the third United defender to complete a move to Sunderland this season following the departure of Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney in the last transfer window.

Davenport, who has also been talking to Wolves and Birmingham looks set to become the Black Cats second capture in the last 24 hours following the arrival on loan of Tal Ben Haim from Manchester City.

The Premier League confirmed this lunchtime that the 5pm transfer deadline will be extended as a result of the inclement weather conditions for transfers where email confirmation of an agreement is sent to the league ahead of the deadline.
