West Ham today completed the signing of Portuguese striker Paolo Alvez in a three month loan deal from Sporting Lisbon.

Alvez, 28, has been a regular in the Portuguese national team recently, and scored against England at Wembley in last year's 1-1 draw. The 6'2" striker follows in the path of Dani and Hugo Porfirio as recent signings from the Portuguese giants.

Harry Redknapp has been keen on the front man for some time, and todays signing completes a new look strike force for the Hammers. Alvez has received clearance from the F.A, and should be available for selection for the Leeds match on Sunday.

The news of todays signing must surely spell the end for Iain Dowie at the club; he is now only fifth choice behind Alvez, John Hartson, Semassi Abou and Paul Kitson (who is close to full recovery from his recent injury).
