West Ham Utd v Man City: half time report

Valon Behrami's season is hanging in the balance after he was stretchered off during the first half with what could be a serious ankle injury.

The popular Swiss midfielder - who had been in contention for Hammer of the Year - went down in agony after turning on his right ankle following a tackle on Manchester City's Wayne Bridge in this lunchtime's Premier League clash.

Behrami received treatment on the field for almost six minutes - during which time he was administered oxygen - before being carried off to standing applause from the appreciative home crowd.

Up until that point the midfielder had been showing good form and was involved in much of West Ham's good approach play, which failed to provide an opening goal despite the home side taking the game to City, who could leapfrog the Hammers should they win today.

United's best chance of the half fell to the reinstated David Di Michele, back in the side having been rested for the midweek FA Cup defeat at Middlesbrough. The Italian, set clear on goal ten minutes ahead of half time opted to fire from a narrow angle rather than deliver the ball back into the centre where strike partner Carlton Cole was waiting to pounce.

At the other end City's best chance fell to Caceido - on as a 15th minute replacement for the injured Micah Richards - who could only toepoke an effort wide of Rob Green's goal from no more than four yards out.

As per usual referee Mike Dean has done his best to prevent a free-flowing game of football and has yet again angered the crowd (both sets of fans) with a string of poor decisions. Scott Parker was just one played left furious when his first challenge of the game - a late yet innocuous 10th minute tackle on Richards - was greeted with a yellow card and a lecture.

Well have more news on the game - and hopefully on Valon Behrami - for you at the final whistle.
