West Ham Utd v Millwall: half time report

Gianfranco Zola's West Ham have left the field to a chorus of boos at the half time whistle in tonight's Carling Cup second round tie.

Neill Harris' close range strike midway through the first half gave the League One side an unlikely half time lead, much to the dismay of the home fans who left Zola's side in no doubt of their feelings as they trudged off for the break.

However it could have been even worse for United, who were distinctly second best and only avoided falling further behind due to a certain amount of profligacy in front of goal by the South East Londoners.

West Ham rarely threatened the Millwall goal, being kept by former Hammer David Forde. The nearest Zola's side came to scoring came in the final moments of the first half when Scott Parker should have done better.

All in all the Hammers will have to improve hugely in the second half if they are to secure the win that was thought by some to be a formality prior to kick off. We'll have more for you at the final whistle.

* Violence predictably flared both in and around the ground prior to the game tonight with a major incident reported outside the Queens pub half an hour prior to kick off.

Inside the ground a number of away fans were ejected from the ground following Neil Harris's goal.
