Anxious wait for Cole

Carlton Cole is awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of ligament damage sustained during Saturday's 5-3 win over Burnley.

The United striker took the knock when colliding with Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen towards the end of the first half and was immediately taken to hospital for a scan.

The results of that remain unknown at present although at least one source is suggesting this morning that the England striker could be out for up to four months, should worst fears be realised.

Gianfranco Zola, speaking after the eight-goal thriller said:

It is his right knee. He twisted it a little bit. If it's ligaments then, yes, it could be a while. But I'm not a doctor.

"Everybody knows how important Carlton is for us, so hopefully it will not prove to be too bad."
