West Ham's opening game of the 2011/12 Championship season against Cardiff City has been rescheduled.

The game, which had been due to take place at 3pm on Saturday, 6th August will now take place the following day on Sunday, 7th August, kicking off at 1pm. It will be broadcast live by the BBC.

That should give local-based supporters just about enough time to get home to catch the Community Shield - this year's match featuring league champions Manchester United and FA Cup winners Manchester City - which also takes place on the same day.

West Ham and Cardiff have met on 40 occasions previously, with West Ham winning 18 to Cardiff's 14 (plus eight draws). The most recent meeting came in February 2005 when Carl Fletcher stole all three points for West Ham with a last minute winner.
