FC Basel v West Ham Utd: half time report

Filed: Wednesday, 13th July 2011
By: Staff Writer

West Ham are deadlocked at the break in their second and final game of the Uhrencup tournament.

Although neither side have managed to score, the Swiss have looked the livelier of the two teams - as one would expect, given the advanced stage of their pre-season.

The exotically-monikered Xherdan Shaqiri has been the 'home' side's main threat during the opening 45 minutes and tested Hammers 'keeper Marek Stech on a number of occasions.

Meanwhile Sam Allardyce's side - captained by debutant Kevin Nolan - have made few inroads into the final third of the pitch although Freddie Sears and Freddy Piquionne have both seen good chances saved.

Once again West Ham's England trio of Robert Green, Scott Parker and Carlton Cole are absentees; we'll have more for you at the final whistle.
