Swansea v West Ham Utd: half time report

Two horrendous errors have handed the initiative to the home side in this lunchtime's Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Sam Allardyce's West Ham, so strong at the back against Aston Villa last week have gifted the home side two goals in the opening 45 minutes with a pair of calamitous errors.

First to embarrass himself was goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen with 20 minutes on the clock; the new signing somehow managed to turn Angel Rangel's centre into his own net after George McCartney was left flat-footed on the left side.

And just nine minutes later it was the turn of fellow new boy James Collins to hang his head in shame after his dreadful back pass allowed Swansea's Spanish striker Michu to nip in and slot the ball beyond Jaaskelainen.

Oddly enough it was West Ham - who looked a constant threat from set pieces - who created the game's better chances.

Twice in the final minute of the half the home side were forced to clear the ball off the line as West Ham threatened to reduce the deficit - and those chances coming just minutes after Michel Vorm produced a stunning save from Matt Jarvis' point blank volley.

Alas, the Hammers were unable to find a way back into the game and therefore went into the break two goals behind. But, as they have shown in the first half, clawing those two goals back may not necessarily be an insurmountable task.
