Tottenham v West Ham Utd: half time report

A fine individual effort from former Hammer Jermain Defoe seperates the sides at half time in this afternoon's London derby at White Hart Lane.
West Ham's game plan of nullifying the opposition had worked perfectly - until the final minute of the opening half when Defoe picked up the ball on the half way line and weaved his way towards West Ham's penalty area before unleashing a fierce drive that fizzed past Juss iJaaskelainen.Prior to that point Tottenham's only effort of note had been Gareth Bale's speculative 11th minute effort that crashed against the underside of the crossbar.
West Ham's game plan of restricting the home side to long range efforts had left Jaaskelainen with very little to do, despite the home side controlling large parts of the first half.
However there were a few glimpses of opportunities for West Ham, although Spurs 'keeper Lloret had no saves of note to make.
Having fallen behind, West Ham - who have already made one substitution when replacing Modibo Maiga with Matt Jarvis - will need to step up a gear if they are to take anything from the game in the second half.
We'll have more for you at the final whistle...
