West Ham Utd v Everton: half time report

Filed: Saturday, 21st September 2013

Ravel Morrison's first Premier League goal for West Ham is the difference between the two teams at the break.

The youngster - who only made his full league debut last weekend at Southampton - struck with 31 minutes on the clock to give the Hammers a fully-deserved half time lead.

A burst on the left by Matt Jarvis opened up the Everton defence before the winger slid the ball inside to Morrison. The young midfielder's first time shot looked goalbound anyway, but a wicked deflection via Jagielka wrong-footed Tim Howard and sent the ball into the opposite corner.

Although shots on target have once again been at a premium - Morrison's goal was West Ham's only one of the half whilst Everton have themselves managed just one too - West Ham posed a serious threat to Howard's goal throughout the half.

Playing with a renewed urgency that was strangely lacking against Stoke in West Ham's last home fixture, the Hammers - being watched from the stands by England manager Roy Hodgson - posed the greater threat.

However Jussi Jasskelainen was still called upon when Kevin Mirallas' goal-bound effort required a solid fist from the big Finn.

We'll have more for you at the final whistle...
