Who do you think you are kidding BBC?

BBC Sport's flagship football show Match of the Day scored a spectacular own goal last night in their coverage of West Ham's 3-0 win at Tottenham.

Immediately prior to the highlights from White Hart Lane being broadcast, the programme ran a short graphic illustrating how Tottenham had travelled across Europe and back during the past few days.

Unfortunately MotD2 producers chose to mimic the opening credits to the BBC's hugely popular situation comedy Dad's Army, which was originally broadcast in the 1960s and 1970s in conjunction with Jimmy Perry's theme tune, entitled "Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Hitler?"

Given the sensitivities surrounding today's game that ranks as an a extraordinary oversight by the broadcasting company, who are already under fire as a result of the recent scandals involving former employees.

Barmy: The Dad's Army credits mimicked in tonight's edition of the BBC's Match of the Day

The Dad's Army Theme Tune
Lyrics by Jimmy Perry, music by Derek Taverner, performed by Bud Flanagan

Who do you think you are kidding, Mr. Hitler?
If you think weíre on the run.

We are the boys who will stop your little game!
We are the boys who will make you think again!

'Cause, who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler
If you think old Englandís done?

Mr Brown goes off to town on the 8.21,
But he comes home each evening and heís ready with his gun.

Who do you think you are kidding, Mr. Hitler?
If you think old Englandís done?
