West Ham were taught a footballing lesson by an efficient Manchester City side at the Boleyn Ground this afternoon.

The visitors were well worth their 3-1 win - their first away from home this season - on a day in which the Hammers failed to get anywhere near their stunning performance against Tottenham at White Hart Lane a fortnight ago.

City took a well-deserved lead with just 15 minutes on the clock when Fernandinho's clever through-ball caught the Hammers defence flatfooted, leaving Sergio Aguero to beat Jussi Jaaskelianen from close range.

The visitora maintained their slender advatange until the half time break - and took just six minutes of the second to double it. Shambolic defending by West Ham allowed Aguero to double his tally for the day when he nodded home a David Silva free kick from eight yards out.

The Hammers continued undeterred and got themselves back into the game when Ricardo Vaz Te - who was on his way out of the Club six weeks ago - scored his second in successive matches with an improvised overhead kick.

Having weathered a brief claret and blue storm, City put the game beyond doubt when Silva got one for himself as West Ham were caught on the counter. with just ten minutes of normal time remaining.

Razvan Rat - who had a poor afternoon - failed to track back with Silva, who found himself in acres of space following a clever reverese pass from Aguero. His curling shot into the far corner left Jaaskelainen grasping at thin air - and West Ham facing a fourth defeat of the season.

More to follow soon...
