Hornets stung as Neill joins Rovers

Former West Ham captain Lucas Neill has left Watford - less than a month after joining the Championship club.

KUMB reported last month how the 36-year-old Australian was back in English football after joining the Hornets on a short-term contract that would see him through to the end of the season.

However it has been confirmed that Neill, who spent two years at West Ham between 2007 and 2009, has now joined Championship relegation battlers Doncaster Rovers on a month's loan.

Neill, who was signed for the Hornets by techincal director Gianluca Nani - the man responsible for the farcical signing of Savio Nsereko at West Ham - will remain at the Keepmoat Stadium until April 22.

He made just one solitary appearance for Watford during his brief spell at Vicarage Road - that being for just six minutes as a late substitute in a 3-0 win over Barnsley on March 15.

Neill, who is hoping to gatecrash the Australian squad for this summer's World Cup Finals in understood to have left Vicarage Road having failed to secure a first team spot - something he believes he can cement at Doncaster.
