Dylan's farewell message

Dylan Tombides took the trouble to personally thank everyone who had wished him well on the occasion of his 20th birthday just one month ago.

The young Hammer passed away earlier today following a lengthy battle against testicular cancer, just a matter of weeks after he sent a special message to all his well-wishers.

"I'd just like to say a big thank you to anybody who took the time to wish me a happy birthday today whether you're a close friend of mine, a family member, a West Ham United fan, a personal fan of mine of if you have read my story and been inspired by it," he wrote.

"Anyone who has been close to me over the last 3-4 years will know the tough times I've endured and the fight I've had to put up and continue to do so!

"Spending another birthday in hospital is never ideal but so many people made me smile today for the effort they put in and I'm very grateful for it.

"Even if I didn't get the chance to reply to your birthday message to me believe me when I say it doesn't go unnoticed and I'm very thankful to you all.

"I just thought I'd like to put this little message together to collectively say 'thank you' to all who took the time to message me - it means more than you will ever know."
