West Ham have completed the signing of former Ipswich Town defender Aaron Cresswell.

The 24-year-old full back joins the Hammers on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, understood to be worth in the region of £4million.

The Liverpool-born defender began his career with Tranmere for whom he made 80 appearances before joining Ipswich three years ago.

Widely hailed as the best defender in the Championship last season, Cresswell played 138 times for the Tractor Boys before completing his move to the Boleyn Ground earlier this evening.

"I would like to put on record my sincere thanks to the owner, manager and fans at Ipswich for their fantastic support over the past three years," he told Ipswich's website.

"I’m sad to be leaving as I’ve built up a great relationship with everyone at the club, however it’s a huge opportunity to play in the Premier League and ‎a challenge I’m looking forward to taking up.

"The manager and players have been brilliant with me and I genuinely wish them and the Club every success for the season ahead. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces in July ‎when West Ham play at Portman Road during pre-season."

Cresswell becomes Sam Allardyce's third signing of the summer following the arrival of Cheikhou Kouyate and Mauro Zarate, both of whom attended the first day of pre-season at Chadwell Heath today with the rest of the squad.
