Mauro Zarate set for medical ahead of QPR move

Out-of-favour striker Mauro Zarate is poised to complete a loan move to troubled Queens Park Rangers later today upon the completion of a medical.

The 27-year-old Argentine forward has barely featured at West ham since moving on a free transfer from Velez Sarsfield and will become a Rangers player for the rest of the season, assuming the medical goes without a hitch.

And Zarate has fired a parting shot at Sam Allardyce, who he claimed refused to play him as he was signed by Chairman David Sullivan.

"The chairman has confidence in me. I know this because he brought me to the club," he told the Mirror. "But for this reason the manager has refused to play me. He did not want me.

“I now have the chance to play for a coach who has faith in me and will not allow his personal feelings to get in the way of what is good for the team.

"I respect the other strikers at the club who have done a good job. But I believe my record entitles me to respect - and I have not had that from the manager."

And with regard to his impending move, Zarate added: "I wanted to go to a club where I was appreciated - a club where I could play every week, as the manager at West Ham has made it difficult for me ever since I arrived."

Since becoming West Ham's first signing of pre-season, Zarate has featured on just eight occasions for the Irons, scoring twice - both away from home, against Crystal Palace and Everton.

He played for 76 minutes when West Ham beat Rangers 2-0 at the Boleyn back in October, before being replaced by Kevin Nolan.
