Song returns - but not for 90

Alex Song is set to feature for West Ham against Everton tonight - but won't play the entire game, according to Sam Allardyce.

The Cameroon midfielder announced his retirement from international football last week, ending any chance he had of representing his country a the African Cup of Nations, which begins later this week.

However no sooner had West Ham received the welcome news that the influential midfielder would be back at the club earlier than expected, Song picked up a virus which prevented him from featuring against Swansea at the weekend.

Having rested and mostly recovered from the effects of the virus, Song is - according to Allardyce - back in contention for a place in tonight's starting XI. However he is unlikely to complete the entire game, should he make the line-up.

"Alex suffered the same as me, in terms of a setback with a virus or a cold," said Allardyce, who also missed the trip to Wales through illness. "He'll be available again for Everton, either on the bench or if he starts he won't complete the game, that's for sure."
