Stephen Hendrie to sign pre-contract agreement

Hamilton Academicals full back Stephen Hendrie is on his way to London in order to sign for West Ham, say reports north of the border.

The 20-year-old left-sided defender will sign a pre-contract agreement with West Ham allowing him to move South in the summer upon the expiry of his current contract (Daily Record).

Although Hendrie had hoped to complete his move to London this month before the end of the current transfer window, the two clubs were unable to agree terms.

That particular arrangement was cancelled last week by the Accies, whose vice-chairman Ronnie MacDonald blasted West Ham for their conduct during negotiations.

"The fee was agreed, Stephen agreed personal terms through his agent and they were meant to come up to our place on New Year’s Day to sign off the deal and didn't appear," he claimed. "They then said they would come up on the 4th but didn't appear, so I just cancelled the deal.

"I think West Ham are shambolic and if that’s how they carry on their business that’s up to them. They should do things properly."

Hendrie made his competitive debut for Hamilton in August 2011 at the age of just 16, before receiving his first international nod - for Scotland's Under 17s - in October of the same year. Three years later he made his debut for the Under 21s, but is yet to appear for the seniors.

[Update] The Mail's Matt Lawless reports that West Ham will pay Hendrie's former club £1million compensation. His medical is set to take place tomorrow (Thursday).
