Ladies foiled at the Final hurdle

West Ham Ladies were unable to secure the Capital Women's Cup Final tonight, going down to a strong Charlton Athletic side at Harrow Borough FC.

Despite having already claimed the scalps of Tottenham (in a memorable penalty shootout), Haringay and Queens Park Rangers in the semi final, Julian Dicks' side were unable to repeat their earlier heroics and eventually succumbed to a 5-0 defeat.

Captain Stacey Little, posting on Twitter tonight wrote: "Gutted, disappointed, heartbroken, angry. No words can describe how I feel right now."

Although Little and her plucky team mates ultimately failed to lift the trophy, there was a swell of supportive messages post-match from the online Hammers community for the brave efforts that that took the Ladies so close to securing their first silverware since Dicks became boss.

The match, staged at Harrow's Earlsmead ground was preceded by a moment's silence for former West Ham United Ladies player Katie Sheppard, who died last year.
