Former Hammers striker Ricardo Vaz Te has completed a free transfer to Championship side Charlton Athletic.

The 29-year-old was on West Ham's books for three years from 2012 but has been without a club since the start of the season, having parted company with Turkish side Akhisar Belediyespor.

And it was confirmed this lunchtime (Friday) that he has joined fellow ex-Hammers Alou Diarra and goalkeeper Stephen Henderson on a short term contract.

"Charlton are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Ricardo Vaz Te on a free transfer," read a statement on Athletic's website. "The 29-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season and trained with his new team mates for the first time this morning."

The Portuguese forward earned himself a place in Hammers folklore on 19 May 2012 when he scored an 87th-minute winner that returned the club to the Premier League - although he soon found himself surplus to requirements following promotion.

Vaz Te - who had also been training with Premier League strugglers Bournemouth in recent weeks - made a total 61 appearances for West Ham during his three years at the Boleyn Ground, scoring 19 goals in total.
