Arsenal fans have been pilloried on social media this afernoon after they were accused of plagiarising West Ham's 'Dimitri Payet' song.

The song, which is based upon Billy Ray Cyrus' worldwide 1992 hit 'Achy Breaky Heart' was created by imaginitive West Ham supporters earlier in the season in honour of their magical French international.

And many of those same Hammers fans did a double take this afternoon when the song was heard during the Stoke v Arsenal clash, which was broadcast live on TV - but with the lyrics changed to honour Arsenal midfielder Mesuit Ozil instead.

However it's not the first time that a Hammers terrace classic has been plagiarised by fellow football fans. Back in 1997, ingenious West Ham fans began celebrating former striker Samassi Abou's goals by booing him - a tradition that continues at many other clubs to this day.

The original and the best: Hammers fans salute Dimitri Payet at Crystal Palace last October
