O dear - Hendon fired after seven months

Former West Ham first team coach Ian Hendon has been fired by Leyton Orient - just seven months after accepting the managerial post at Brisbane Road.

Hendon, who was part of Sam Allardyce's back room team joined the O's last May after learning that the current Sunderland manager was set to lose his job at the Boleyn.

However he was handed his cards earlier today following a dreadful run that culminated in just four wins from their last 21 fixtures.

Breaking the news on their website, a statement on behalf of the League Two club read: "The club can confirm that Ian Hendon has been relieved of his role as Head Coach of Leyton Orient.

"The club would like to thank Ian for his commitment and passion during his time at Leyton Orient and would like to wish him the best in his future endeavours.

"Assistant Manager Andy Hessenthaler will be assuming Ian's duties on an interim basis as Caretaker Manager. Leyton Orient will make an announcement at such time as a new appointment is made. "

Hendon arrived at West Ham via Gillingham in 2011 as Development Coach, but was later promoted to First Team Coach. The former Tottenham defender - whose previous management roles have included spells at Barnet and Dover Athletic - spent four years at the Boleyn.

The only surviving members of Allardyce's former Back Room team are fitness coaches Eamon Swift and Stijn Vandenbroucke, who has been with the club - on and off - since 2009. Neil McDonald (Blackpool), Wally Downes (free agent), Andy Rolls (Arsenal) and Hendon have all left in the past 18 months.
