Dimitri Payet is on the verge of signing a bumper new contract with West Ham - just seven months after joining the club.

The French international is poised to become the club's top earner having agreed a new deal worth in excess of £100,000 per week - a figure considerably larger than that earned by West Ham's existing top earner, Andy Carroll (circa £90,000 per week).

Payet, who was linked with a move to China last week after an unnamed club were reported to have bid in excess of £30million for his services is keen to remain at West Ham and in London, where he is happy.

However he has been considering his options for next season and beyond for several weeks, leading to the new contract offer from West Ham.

The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to have been monitoring the 29-year-old midfielder's situation, forcing the Hammers to move swiftly in order to ensure the fans' favourite remains at the Boleyn beyond the current campaign.

Payet has made just 23 appearances for West Ham since moving from Marseille last summer, scoring six goals during that period.
